Muddy Buddy

What a fun day! Last weekend we competed in our favorite race of the year...the Muddy Buddy. Skyler's brother introduced us to this race three years ago and we have done it each year since.

The Muddy Buddy is a 6-7 mile team race which consists of mountain biking and trail running. We share one bike and leap-frog between biking and running. I started off riding the bike and Skyler started off running. We switch four times during the race at a spot where we also had to do an obstacle (climb over a wall, balance beam, inflatable slide). At the end we had to crawl, on our stomachs, through a 100-foot mud pit. It was awesome!

After we finished our race we spotted this buff woman. Her name is Julie Ertel and she is an US Olympian. The reason we know her is because her sport is triathlon. We watched her compete in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Also, she is from Placentia (next to Yorba Linda), so we had something in common. It was so inspiring to meet someone who is a top athlete in my sport. (Oh, and her team had the fastest time in the Muddy Buddy.)
I am so glad that I had my camera! The girl with the white helmet is Tiffany Amber Thiessen. We saw her at the race last year, but this year I was able to secure a picture.

My friend Carrie and her friend Kelly competed in this race for the first time. I baked special cupcakes for this event. I handed them out to fellow racers and spectators. They were a big hit!

The best part of the day was at the end. The first time that Carrie and Kelly crawled through the mud pit they didn't hear the chants from the beer garden, "Wrestle, wrestle, wrestle." After they found this out, they decided that they needed to put on a show. They snuck back onto the race course and crawled through the mud pit again, but this time they gave the beer boys what they wanted! I think some heads exploded!

Can't wait until next year!

This looks totally incredible! I love playing in the mud, let alone after a run.
