I finally narrowed down the sound to be under the hood of the car next to us. I got a little nervous because cats tend to curl up under car's hoods where it is warm and then when the car starts...disaster.
Well, the family that owned the car just happened to be coming out of the restaurant at that moment. I told them my suspicions and they popped the hood of their PT Cruiser. Curled up in a ball was a small orange kitten. It immediately jumped out of the car and ran under another car. Since we couldn't see it under that car, we assumed it went under the hood again.
The owner of that car came out of the restaurant at that exact moment. We told him what happened and he popped his hood. Again, the cat was under there and jumped out the minute it saw us. It ran under another car. See a pattern? We didn't have the time to chase around this cat any longer so we left it.
We assumed it was a feral car (Office reference: It's a feral barn cat. I trapped him last night and I'm giving him to you as a replacement cat for the one I destroyed.) and could fend for itself, but I'm still hoping that nothing happened to this poor, cold kitten.

You always wanted an orange kitty. Too bad you couldn't rescue it.
So sad too bad I guess!
You know that I don't like Cats. But somewhere deep within myself I do feel bad for that little Kitty.
