Ironman 70.3 California

My plan is to write a detailed description of the day so that I won't forget any details. Since I've been busy at work, I haven't had the time. Here are the pictures in the mean time.

Presenting:
Skyler and Elise Wallace
Ironman 70.3 California
Oceanside, CA
April 4, 2009
1.2 Swim, 56 Bike, 13.1 Run

Skyler's swim wave. His wave was one of the first. I had to wait another 35 minutes to start.

Skyler looks great coming out of the water. He's peeling off his wetsuit and running at the same time. Very hard to do, especially when your toes are numb from the cold water.

These pictures are courtesy of John Wallace, Skyler's dad. I have to give him a huge THANKS because he was there at the beginning of the race and he stayed until the very end. Thanks John!

Skyler has fast transition times. My transition times are not so good. I usually double check to make sure I have everything so I take a little longer.

I felt great before, during, and after the swim. Fortunately, the water was warmer than the air temperature at the beginning of the race, so it wasn't hard to get in the water.

I peeled off my wetsuit, grabbed my bike, and was ready to go in less than seven minutes. Notice that there are a lot of bikes around me? That means that I was ahead of most girls in my group.

You can't get on your bike until you are out of the transition area. It's hard to run in cycling shoes. I won't be back for 3 hours, 15 minutes.

Skyler bikes back to the transition area after a great bike ride! His fastest bike average ever in a race!

I'm heading out for the first loop of the run. Running on the sand was the hardest part of the race. I felt so wobbly. I didn't expect the run to be so difficult, but I really wasn't sure how I would feel after swimming and biking that long.

Skyler is heading down the finish line chute. Best part of the day for sure!

Happy to be done and happy to see family and friends! There is nothing better than seeing the people you love supporting you doing something you love.

Skyler was there to catch me as I crossed the finish line. All I could think was, what is that silver skirt he is wearing? I needed one too because I got cold quickly.

Skyler is my inspiration. He is a natural athlete and he pushes me to do my best. I'm not sure if I will ever do a Half Ironman again, but it was definitely worth all of the training, pain, and sunburns.

Ive said it before, I'll say it again. RADICAL! AMAZING! INSPIRATIONAL!

I want to hear about what you ate afterwards. When we saw you last you still had your TRI numbers on your legs and were still on an eating fest. How much and how many days do you get to eat what you want after an Iron Man race?
