Xterra Triathlon!

Wow! What a fun weekend! We drove to Las Vegas Friday afternoon to pick up our packets and check out the race site. Skyler, Brandon, and I made a special trip a month ago to test out the race course. It sucked, but we were still excited to race.

There were six of us competing in the Xterra Triathlon. Mike, Carrie, and Brenna raced in the short course (750m swim, 15K bike, 5K run). Skyler, Brandon, and I raced the long course (double the short course).

The day started early, but we were excited! This was Brandon and Mike's first triathlon. Mike didn't seem nervous at all. I would have been if I was the only person not wearing a wetsuit for the swim. But Mike is super awesome and was strangely calm.

The race website boasted 71 degree lake water. Someone lied. The water was near 60 degrees. Again, Mike had no wetsuit! Check out Carrie peeling off her wetsuit at the end of the swim.

Mike rocked it on the bike. He flew through the course like he biked there every day!

The bike course was tough! It had a lot of steep hills (both up and down). I had a lot of fun trying to stay alive. And talk about peer pressure...during my first lap of the bike course I had the pros, who were on their second lap, breathing down my neck. I'm sure that made me go faster because I didn't want to slow them down.

The spectators really make the difference. I always get an extra boost of confidence when I see people I know. This was a first for me though....a special sign made just for me (and Skyler)! A huge "Thank You" goes out to my favorite red-headed fan (and hopefully a future triathlete)!

I'm not sure when Brenna got that sweet cut on her right knee, but it shows her toughness. I'm also super jealous of her pink and grey trail running shoes.

Like I mentioned before, this was Brandon's first triathlon. Skyler has always told me that when Brandon does something, he wants to be the best at it. Triathlon is no different. He set some lofty goals and came through with flying colors. He amazed us all, yet he still thought he could have done better.

Wondering where the pictures of Skyler are? Unfortunately, Skyler came down with the flu last week. We think it is the swine flu so he had to be quarantined for the weekend. JUST KIDDING! Skyler was still sick when we drove up on Friday. Saturday morning he decided to give the race a try but he was smart enough to drop out when he started feeling bad. I'm so happy that he was able to recognize that finishing the race would have made him sicker. I am still so proud of him and love him for supporting the rest of us racers.

Interested in the numbers? Check out our times here!

Congrats to you both. It takes more guts to drop out of something you love to do even though you don't want to. That is such a tough call. (THis is Cherise)

I was in Vegas at the same time walking in the Susan G Komen race for the cure with my family. Funny that we are frequently close by each other and never manage to run into each other...ha ha! Congratulations!!!
