Italy Day 15

Another day of sight-seeing. I have to add a disclaimer: I know that wearing my running shoes looks ridiculous but my feet needed the comfort due to all of the walking we were doing.

First stop was Ian's recommendation, Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri (St. Mary of the Angels and Martyrs). The front doors had these sculptures of half-people. It is supposed to represent the resurrection.

This church was very interesting because it seemed to be deciated to the sciences. There were a lot of displays about Galileo. There is a meridian line in the center of the church. In addition to being able to track the sun, holes were also added to the ceiling to chart the stars.

Next we stopped at the Trevi Fountain. You would have thought we were in Vegas. So many people were gathered in this area.

Legend says that if you throw a coin into the fountain, it will ensure your return to Rome. Looks like I'm coming back, not sure if Skyler will make it!

I loved the subway system in Rome! We bought a Roma Pass which gave us unlimited use of all public transportation. My card got wrinkled from being in my pocket and stopped working on day two. Every time I needed to use the subway I would have to ask them to open the handicap entrance. I wish Orange County had a subway.

We took the subway over to Vatican City again. Today we would be touring the Vatican Museum. I can't believe how much "stuff" they have in that museum. One of our favorite exhibits was the Egyptian exhibit. I love cats (if you couldn't already tell)!

All of the rooms were just stuffed with art. I felt bad for just glancing at items as I walked by. There was too much to see!

Of course, the end of the museum was the Sistine Chapel. It was pretty amazing! I was surprised at how far away the ceiling was. You could barely see the paintings on the ceiling. You weren't supposed to take pictures in there but almost everyone was (including someone I know, but I'm refusing to post the pictures). No respect.

We stopped by a bike shop called Romeo Bikes. It was one of the only bike shops in Rome. We were looking for info on the Giro d'Italia, the bike race that we would be watching the next day.

Last sight of the day was the Four Rivers Fountain (Sight #4 on out Angels and Demons tour-WATER).

That night we ate dinner over by the Colosseum. We took some fun pictures.

Day 16: Highlight of the trip--watching the Giro d'Italia!
