I couldn't believe how ornate the buildings and churches were. Each square inch is covered by stained glass, paintings, and statues. It was a little overwhelming! Skyler is standing in front of the Duomo, which we didn't visit until the next day.
We had our art history lesson for the day. We visited the Ufizi Gallery and the Academy. So many famous paintings and sculptures! Statues littered the plaza outside the Ufizi. One of them is a replica of David, which actually used to stand in that spot. It does not do the original justice. I was surprised at how awestruck I was when I saw the real David statue. It is amazing (no pictures allowed)!
Of course we couldn't make it through the day without gelato. Turns out that this is the most expensive gelato in the world, but so worth it. Gelato on a waffle!
Street performers and vendors were everywhere. Top items for sale: prints of famous paintings, little battery-powered crash cars, knock-off purses, and tripods.
Skyler finally handed off the camera to me to prove that he was on this trip too!
Our campground was just a short walk from town. Across the river and a walk up a steep hill.
This was one of my favorite stories of the whole trip. It would take too long to explain so you must ask us to tell you ourselves. But I will say that it involved me being hit on by a drunk underwater rugby team from the Czech Republic.
Dinner at "home."
P.S. I feel that I must explain why Skyler and I are wearing the same clothes in most of our pictures. Since we hauled around everything on our bikes, we had very limited space. We tried to only bring one or two of each item. We did a lot of laundry!

Now I want a donut really badly. That first picture (breakfast) is phenomenal. Thanks.
(by the way, i'm loving touring Italy!)
I would like to say that I also am loving touring Italy. And I also would like a donut. Too bad I am not moving around exclusively on a bike and can't afford a donut in my budget of calories. Maybe I will sell my car and get one of those bike cars like we rent when we go to the beach. Then I could have a donut anytime I wanted.
what the heck is underwater rugby? awesome! seriously, I want gelato soooo bad right now! we have a great place down the street from us, but I bet it doesn't compare to italy...im drooling!
