Life Lessons from a Dog

I'm learning to become less materialistic. How? Well, when a certain dog chews up everything that I've take a liking to, then I learn to love "stuff" less.

Yes, Pumpkin likes to chew on things. She is, after all, still a puppy. But she doesn't chew on everything, just on items she can make progress on and that are soft.

Example: a softball. Hard to believe she could bite a softball open. She did. You have no idea how much cork is in the middle of a softball.

Example: her dog bed. It's filling with soft stuffing. Also, another item that you wouldn't believe how much stuffing is in it.

Example: my Ugg slippers.

Example: my new Mammoth hoodie where I carelessly left a treat in the pocket.

Example: socks. She loves socks!

It's really hard to stay mad at her because I realize that she's not doing these things to be mean. She just likes to play. But I must say, I do get mad. Especially when she has something in her mouth and I'm chasing her around the room, under the bed, and in circles around our kitchen island. She almost has this smile on her face that says, "Isn't this fun?"

I love her...but can't wait for her to grow out of this stage.

What does Pumpkin do while you are at work? Is this when most of the chewing happens? A dog of this age should probably be kenneled or at least contained so that they do not chew on everything. Once they are about 2 years old they will do better at not chewing as long as the habit is not ingrained in their heads.

The worst thing my dog even chewed was a bic pen. And why was this the worst? Because it was on my brand new almost while carpet!

No, she does not chew on things while we are at work. She is kenneled in our room until she is old enough to be out on her own. We know she will be better when she's two. She doesn't chew on furniture or anything like that. She just likes to play and that is her way of doing it.

Welcome to the life of a toddler! hah! Its seriously funny listening to your stories b/c I read them and I'm thinking man this sounds like some of the things I've been thinking lately. Like, I'm so mad at you Diego, even though you're too young to really know whats ok and not ok to do! But yeah its just a stage (so they say) and Im trying to enjoy even the ANNOYINGLY crazy moments!

Our dog does that too. He got to my favorite pair of black shoes last week. He totally thinks it's a game too. he'll run out into the yard and then there's no catching him.
