Luckily, I was asked to be a judge at the OC Cupcake Classic at the fair, so I was able to get to the fair myself (more about this later). Even more lucky was my brothers being able to join me at the fair. If anyone knows how to eat, it's them.
Since I'm the big sister, I gave us permission to start off our eating fest with dessert. First, the chocolate funnel cake. I didn't expect it to taste much different from a normal funnel cake, but it was delicious! Next year though, switching back to the Mexican funnel cake.
Next, fried avocado dipped in ranch. One of my favorites from previous years.
Eric was brave enough to try the notorious Fried Chicken Donut Sandwich. Let me explain this: instead of buns, it's a jelly Krispy Kreme donut sliced in half, then a piece of fried chicken in the middle covered with honey. I witnessed several people eat this the first year it appeared at the fair, then five minutes later I saw the sandwich again. So gross. Looks like they've toned down the sandwich a bit. The sandwich used to have two donuts (one for each side of the sandwich) and a hunking giant piece of fried chicken. Maybe too many people had heart attacks.
Next was the fried Snickers. I didn't personally try one, but my mom said it was delicious.
Last, apple fries. Fried apple slices topped with caramel, cinnamon, and whipped cream.
Of course there are foods I didn't try, but wish I had. Next year I'm getting the cinnamon sugar or marshmallow yammys. I also want to try aussie potatoes. One of the most talked about fried "foods" this year was fried butter. I can't think of a worse idea.
Oh, so I mentioned that I was a judge at the OC Fair's OC Cupcake Classic. Keep in mind that I tasted approximately 25 cupcakes before I even started the food fest with my brothers. Yes, I love food that much. You can read the coverage of the OC Cupcake Classic on my cupcake blog.
Already counting down the days until next year's fair. Skyler, Kenny, and Jill: no flaking out.
