On the drive up, we witnessed the craziest lightning storm. It lit up the sky all the way there. We arrived at the trailer to raging winds, not uncommon for the middle of the night. But the next morning we awoke to the worst sound at Lake Mead -- wind. We got all packed up anyway and made our way down to the marina, but the wind was blowing too hard. It wasn't going to happen that day.
So we tried to make the best of the day. We drove to a different bay to find a protected cove to swim in.
As you can tell by our hair, it was still so windy.
Luckily, the neighbors had an inflatable pool. At least we had an excuse to put on our bathing suits.
Hanging with Kenny and Jill is always a fun time so we didn't let a little wind ruin our weekend. We went to bed with hopes of a better day in the morning.
Next morning: wind.
We've had so many perfect weekends at Lake Mead that we were due for a dud. We decided not to hang around to see if the weather would improve, so we packed up and headed into Vegas.
We wanted a really good meal since we didn't get to enjoy the lake. We finally got some luck! We ate at the Burger Bar in the Mandalay Bar. One of the best burgers I've ever eaten! And dessert?....Dessert Burgers! (Check out my review on Cupcake Activist here).
After lunch we checked out M&M World on the strip. Sadly, it's not as exciting as it sounds. Yes, you can buy M&Ms in multiple colors, but M&Ms all taste the same so it wasn't that big of a deal. They did have a small museum on the top floor.
The best part of the whole weekend took place at the Coca-Cola Store next to M&M World. We were expecting it to be similar to M&M World, a store where you can purchase Coca-Cola branded products, but we found something awesome! On the second floor then is a soda fountain store. You can buy different Coca-Cola drinks. They have a menu item called Tastes of the World. For $7 you get 16 cups full of 16 different Coca-Cola drinks sold around the world. Most of the them can't be found in the US at all. We made a game of rating each drink. You can see the whole experience on the Cupcake Activist blog here.
So although our weekend didn't turn out as planned, we still had a fun time hanging out with our nieces, Kenny & Jill, and my new favorite baby Lola.

I feel the need to inform anyone viewing this post that I am in fact wearing a bathing suit in all those photos. Yikes.
Thanks for a fun weekend (despite the crappy weather). Lola's been missing you. YOu may be her favorite person to nap on.
Rose is NOT offended.

But she has not read this yet so that may change.
