Skyler, along with six other members of Team Poseidon, participated in a race called The Traverse. It is a mountain bike race that is 40+ miles long and has 8,000+ feet of elevation gain. Ever notice the mountains in Orange County? Well, the Traverse travels up and down all of them. One more thing to note: it was a HOT day.
Since the race takes place high above Orange County, Pumpkin and I were only able to cheer Skyler through the finish line.
Skyler completed the course in six hours and eight minutes (6:08). This earned him a 2nd place finish in the Male 18-30 Intermediate Group.
I am so proud of him!...especially since he was sick. Here's the story: the previous weekend we ate at a vegan restaurant called The Veggie Grill. I'm not into vegan food at all, but Skyler really wanted to try it. He got the Chick'n sandwich. I don't eat fake chicken. Well, a few hours later he definitely regretted his decision when the fake chicken decided it didn't like being in his stomach. Food poisoning led to full-on sickness for the rest of the week. The night before the race he wasn't even sure he was going to be able to ride at all. But the adrenaline of race morning convinced him otherwise. Although he did really well, he said that he was throwing up a lot during the race. He was also really weak from being sick all week. I am really proud of him for finishing the race!
Pumpkin was happy to see him finish too, but she's always happy to see him.
