Pumpkin Turns 2

On January 15th, we woke up to a beautiful Saturday and realized that it was Pumpkin's birthday. She turned two! It's hard to believe that we've had Pumpkin in our lives for almost a year. Of course we spent the whole time spoiling her.

First, we headed over to Peter's Canyon to take her for a trail run. I ran and Skyler biked. We practiced letting her run off-leash a few times and she did pretty good. We had almost finished our run and I was currently running with Pumpkin on her leash. Skyler rode ahead on his mountain bike, since we were going downhill. Everything began going in slow motion. You know what that means...I was about to eat it. Imagine this: Pumpkin is ahead of me on her leash so my right arm is extended out. Since we're running downhill, I started falling down the hill, superman-style with the arm extended. The whole right side of my body hits the dirt and I start sliding down the hill. Yeah, it's not pretty.

I finally come to a stop and all I want to do is lie still, but Pumpkin's leash has come out of my hand and she's running away. She realizes that I'm not running anymore and stops to look at me. Then she looks forward at Skyler riding away on his bike. She looks back and forth between us a few times before deciding to run after Skyler. I want to think that she was trying to catch him to tell him that I was hurt (you know, like Lassie), but who knows.

I quickly stand up and chase after her. Luckily adrenaline is pulsing through my body so I can't feel the pain. I finally catch her and sit down to assess my injuries. Scratched up and bloodied hands, rip running shorts, huge goose egg on my knee, lots of scratches and bruises from my hips down to my ankles. Not pretty. Luckily I was able to jog my way back to the car.

I couldn't let my injuries ruin the day, so I showered and we headed down to the Huntington Dog Beach. Pumpkin LOVES the beach! The first time we took her she was very timid. She has slowly worked up to going in the water after a few months. Now, she loves playing in the water! Skyler usually finds a stick and plays fetch with her as she chases the stick through the waves.

On this day, Pumpkin's friend Verona met us at the beach. They had a blast playing together.

We stayed long enough to watch the sunset. Happy Birthday Pumpkin!

Elise, I hope you are all right! Injuries are no fun.

Hope you're healing up well.. something my mom (and aunts and grandma) told me was that turmeric helps reduce scarring.. but it also smells bad and is really yellow. (I never bother.. scars are COOL!)
