Blue Bun in the Oven

Week 15 Update:

Thank you to everyone who has let me act like my baby is the first baby ever born. I know babies are born every day, but that doesn't make me any less excited. I promise to have a belly shot soon, just waiting to get a good one that doesn't make me look fat.

So everyone assumes that since I was skinny that I won't have a baby belly. Wrong. I popped right at the beginning. Here's the deal: I was at race weight when I found out I was pregnant, which means I was underweight. So I gained my normal weight back plus lots of extra because I cut back my training dramatically and ate a lot more. I kept hearing that nausea would subside if I ate every two hours. So I ate and ate and ate and gained a lot of weight right away.

Yes, I had morning sickness starting the day after my big race in Oceanside. (Thankfully I was able to race with no sickness.) I remember the next day feeling pretty awful. This is pretty common after a long, tough race, but this time it never went away. Luckily I haven't thrown-up (yet), but my nausea was pretty bad. Nothing sounded good to eat, yet I was always hungry. I tried doing everything to get rid of the nausea and finally got a prescription from my doctor. By the time I did that, I was just past my 13-week mark, so my nausea finally subsided.

Funny moment: One Friday night Skyler and I were looking for somewhere to eat for dinner. He said I could choose wherever I wanted. But the nausea was pretty strong and nothing sounded good. I started crying out of frustration. Skyler turned to look at me and saw that I was crying. And he started laughing....hard! And he didn't stop. He kept looking at me and cracking up again. He thought I was the funniest thing ever. Actually, he said that was the moment he realized that I really was pregnant because of how crazy I was acting. He's the best.

So nausea went away and in came the acid reflux. What?! I've never had acid reflux before, but it's awful. My throat was burning so bad all day and all night. After a little research I discovered what foods cause it. Found out that tomatoes are a big culprit. Oh! So that pasta, tomato soup, salsa, and pizza aren't good for me. Bummer! So I've been trying to control it, but it's still hanging around. I found out that chewing gum helps a little. While in NYC last week, I bought some low-dose Zantac to help. There was no way I was going to not enjoy food while in New York City. Hallelujah! It worked, but I have to take it 30 minutes before I eat. Hopefully this goes away soon.

So I have to write about my cravings because I feel so cliche. Around Week 8 I couldn't live without pickles. I went through a few jars in one week. I even drank the juice out of the jar. I love pickles, but I've never done that before. Surprisingly, that went away and there's still a half-full jar in the fridge. Some foods make me gag just thinking about them. One of them is cupcakes. Can you believe it?! I have been bad about blogging about cupcakes on my other blog because they repulse me right now. Isn't that awful? Hopefully that feeling will go away soon. For the past two weeks I've been craving soup. I ate soup like three times in New York and it was over 100 degrees outside. Right now I'm been craving gummy candy. I ate a couple of bag of gummy bears in New York last week. I'm also craving In-N-Out burners. I think it's mainly because of the spread, but who cares....those burgers are the best ever!

So the big news. I'm not scheduled for another ultrasound until the middle of July. This is when I would find out the gender of our baby. Well, we didn't want to wait that long. A friend recommended an Ultrasound Medical Office that just does ultrasounds. For $25 we decided it was a bargain. Between returning home from New York Sunday night and Skyler leaving for San Diego Monday afternoon, we squeezed in a quick appointment. Turns out our baby is not shy. He's definitely a BOY! Yeah, I couldn't be more excited! It was fun seeing him do sommersalts and kick all over the place. It's like he knew we were watching.

So there's my update. Life is good. Baby Boy Wallace is happy and active. I have lots of photos from our trip to New York.

I've never had acid refulx either until I was pregnant and then it was like constant unless I took a pepcid like every day. It last 24 hours and is safe during pregnancy at least the last two trimesters. I had heart burn right up until I was pushing Sunny out. I made Steve go get me some Tums so I could continue my hypnobirth with out acid reflux breaking my focus. I am so happy for you guys. YOu will be great parents. BTW I loved avacados during pregnancy and they are now Alyssa's favorite food. I couldn't even be near Cilantro which was before and is now my favorite green thing on the planet.

I'm so excited for you guys! Congratulations! I love hearing about all the cravings... isn't it funny how some of them really are cliche?
I love how you said something in the beginning about how this isn't the first baby ever born but it is so exciting to you. That's so how it is and it is definitely something to be *that* excited about. When I was pregnant it was all I wanted to talk about and I could not get enough of other people's pregnancy and delivery stories. I watched A LOT of TLC's Baby Story! But, now looking back, I think it's so awesome to be that excited and consumed by it. In the grand scheme of things it is such a short period of time. You might as well eat it up and enjoy every second of it and share it with whoever is around!
Can't wait to see pictures!! :D
