Last year I was registered to race the OC Tri, but dropped out because I had recently learned I was pregnant. This year was my redemption year. I love this race because I can train on the race course. I regularly ride through the canyon and we've raced this race several times before, so I knew exactly what to expect. I was super excited to race!
The water temp was perfect and I was ready to beat my 2010 time. Ok, I know I shouldn't expect to beat my time just a few months after having a baby, but I secretly knew I could.
The swim felt great. I knew this is where I was the least prepared, but I felt great anyway. Skyler said he talked to lots of people during the race who said the swim was longer than in year's past. I hope that's true because my time was slower than 2010. You never quite know with the swim. It's hard to be exact. Anyways, my time was 34:18 (2010-31:00). T1...well, they messed up and added T1 time with the bike time, so I'm going to say about 1:30.
I pushed hard on the bike because I knew where I had to save my energy. I wanted to have a great bike. I approximated my bike time at 1:18:45 (2010-1:19:55). T2 1:49 (2010-1:08).
Running has been my strength, but I had a pretty awesome time in 2010. I knew I would have to push very hard to meet that time. I did and crushed with a 47:36 (2010-50:07).
Total time was 2:44:00 (2010-2:43:52). Had I known I was just a few seconds from getting a PR, I might have found a little more in me to push harder. But given the longer swim, I consider it a PR and a success! Plus, I earned second place in my age group. Talk about a great day!
Skyler is the greatest husband and dad ever! He and Desmond cheered me on during the race. When I needed the most support when I was running up a steep hill, there they were. I couldn't have been happier! I seriously love these two so much!!
Because race results were messed up, they didn't do an awards ceremony post-race. Of course that happens when I actually place. Oh well, my second place is still second place! I can't wait for the rest of this triathlon season.
