New Goal

Friday Skyler and I took our first trip on the Metrolink. We packed our stuff, grabbed our road bikes, and walked out our front door to the Metrolink station. We took the train down to Oceanside and then rode our bikes to our hotel five miles away. We woke up at 5:30am on Saturday morning to ride down to the Ford Half Ironman. We attended this event last year, but we had to wake up super early to drive down there in time for the 6:40am start time. This year we decided to make a weekend trip out of it. We arrived at the event just in time to see the pros begin their wave. The pro men are always the first wave and the pro women are the second wave. The Half Ironman consists of a 1.5 mile swim, 56 mile bike, and 13.1 mile run (half marathon). The athletes that compete in this event are crazy. The top finisher, Andy Potts, finished in 3 hours, 58 minutes.
This year we knew a few people who were competing in the event. Think about this carefully....Skyler's brother's wife's sister and her husband did the event. They did the St. George triathlon with us last year. So I remember thinking last year that I could never do a Half Ironman, but this year I realized that I can do one. I probably could have completed the race yesterday, but I would have done terrible. So now I have a goal of racing in the Ford Half Ironman 70.2. It will probably not be next year, but the following year I will be doing it. Mark my words! I am excited to have that goal to work towards. I want to do one before I start having kids.
After watching the race for about six hours we decided to grab lunch and then head back to the train station to catch the 2:10 back to Orange. We almost missed our train because we were on the wrong platform, but luckily Skyler figured it out. The train ride was about 75 minutes. It was peaceful until San Juan Capistrano when a bunch of cub scouts got on the train. They were having fun and being loud. It was a fun experience.
Before we got to the train station I heard a cat's meow in the distance. We saw this cage of kittens in front of a pet store. There were so cute and definitely the type that Skyler would be allergic to.
