Oh Memorial Day, we love you!

Since I was about 12 it has been a tradition of my family's to ride our bikes to the beach on Memorial Day. The first year it was just me and my dad. It took forever, partly because my dad got a flat tire about half way there and partly because an extremely long detour. The next year my sister and little brother came. The tradition was put on hold during recent years until last year when my little 10-year old sister Holly decided that she wanted to become a part of the tradition. This year we decided to do it again. We thought it would be easiest to start at our house in Orange so that we could ride our bikes back, something we hadn't done before (at least not as a family, Skyler and I ride to and from the beach at least once a week on our road bikes).Skyler and I rode on our beach cruisers so that we could get a good workout. Riding up and down those hills under each street crossing is a lot more difficult with only one gear.
We made it to the beach! We ate lunch at Newport Burger and after some doubts were discussed, we made the decision to ride back. We made it back home! Everyone did a great job! I have always loved riding bikes so I am glad that Skyler is into that too. On that note, Skyler and I drove to a triathlon shop in Encinitas after our bike ride yesterday. Thanks to our tax refund, we purchased two new triathlon bikes. We will be picking them up next week after they are built to our body specifications.

So we're bummed we never got to meet up yesterday, but I'm glad you had some fun with the fam. And thanks for proving you like me more than Skyler likes Kenny (even if I failed at reciprocation).
