Easter Weekend at Bootleg Canyon

Skyler and I are racing in an Xterra triathlon this weekend in Las Vegas. An Xterra triathlon is different from a regular triathlon by having mountain biking and trail running instead of road biking and flat running. We are doing the Olympic distance race, which is a 1.5K swim, 30K mountain bike, and 10K trail run.

A few weeks ago we traveled to Las Vegas so we could preview the trails. Since we were in the area, we went to a mountain bike park in Boulder City called Bootleg Canyon.

At the bottom of the trails there is a park with small jumps, bridges, a tetter-totter, and showers. We played around there before we began our ride. This is me on the tetter-totter. It is about the slam down on the other side so I can roll off. Scary at first, but fun!

Skyler and Brandon (he is doing the race with us this weekend, as well as Mike and Carrie) rode to the top of the mountain. At the top, they saw these ziplines, the same ones featured on Rob's Fantasy Factory.

Looking the other way, you have a great view of Lake Mead. Can't wait to take some fun trips there this summer!

Skyler has no fear when it comes to mountain biking. Me, on the other hand, I'm working on conquering my fears. (Don't pay attention to me walking my bike in the background. This was after I crashed my bike three times and I was a little sore).

I'm excited to be trying a different kind of triathlon. My mountain biking skills aren't nearly as great as my road bike skills, but this race should be a lot of fun! And let's not forget that we recruited three other people to do the race with us.
