Even though I said we spent most of the 4th of July watching the Tour de France, that is not entirely true. We started the morning by participating in a local 5k. This was good prep work for the OC Mud Run that we are running in next weekend.
After the 5k race, there was a flag raising ceremony, something to make us feel very patriotic on this special holiday.

Skyler placed 3rd in his age group and 6th overall. He has a pretty competitive age group I guess.
There were four women from my ward that received ribbons. Carrie and I have organized a women's triathlon to encourage women to be more active. It is called Give It a Tri-athlon. It takes place on July 25 at Hart Park in Orange. It is so awesome to see women become active and train to do this event. If you are a woman and are interested in do this mini triathlon, contact me this week so I can get you signed up.
Later in the day, Skyler and I rode our beach cruisers around town. No destination in mind.
Somehow we ended up at Sizzler. We weren't celebrating any special occasions either! Skyler really liked it because it reminded him of his childhood. I'm more of a Souplantation person. But still, I loved the jello in the all-you-can-eat salad bar.
We ended the day by hanging out with friends in Costa Mesa and watching fireworks at Newport Bluff. But to me, no fireworks are better than Valley View Sports Park.

It sounds like a fun day. I think is great that you guys are putting together the mini triathlon. Ben and I are also doing the OC mud run just the 5K Fun Run but is a good start. Maybe I'll see you there!
Sizzler! (must be said in a snake like whisper)
Love this post.
I am proud to announce that I will be participating in my frist (real) triathlon Sept 18. I am so excited and I have recruited a few other little mommas to do it with. I think it's great when women use their body's post baby making. It will be a 750 meter swim, 20K ride and a 5 K run. I can totally do all those things, and I think I can do them one after another with a little practice.
How do you train for swimming. I am at a little bit of a loss for a training regimen for the swim part, any tips or suggestions?
PS Steve love the Sizzler. He loves the Malibu Chicken.
july 25th is my baby shower - hope you can still make it!
Sizzler reminds me of childhood too- it's my mom's favorite place :)
I noticed the jell-o was at the "salad" bar!
I missed the VAlley VIew fireworks too!
