Over the Hump

Last night Carrie and I raced in our first mountain-bike-only race called Over the Hump. I wasn't sure what to expect or how many people would be doing the race, so I was pleasantly surprised to see 315 other racers there. It was a little intimidating to see so many racers with official race outfits, but I didn't care because I was just riding for fun.

It was probably the hottest day in August yesterday (although I hear it's going to get hotter throughout the week). I had planned on wearing mountain bike shorts, but it was just too hot for that. I switched into my tri shorts before we started the race.

Carrie and I did the beginner course, which consisted of 2 loops of the 3.75 mile course. It was so fun to see a lot of people that we know from the mountain bike world. There were even two pros doing the race.

Surprisingly, our two mountain bike husbands could not make it to the race (Skyler was auditioning for Family Feud and Carrie's husband was working). They missed out....it was so much fun! They will have to join us when we do the race again next month.

I wonder if I will EVER be ready haha! No, I'm kidding. I told my mom about all the stuff you've been "promoting" lately, like your mini triathalon and mountain biking. She wants to start doing those sorts of things with me once I, well, heal. Would you be interested in showing us the ropes of mountain biking, when the time comes? We're total beginners.

And, no, I don't think the Doc could tell just by looking. She did an internal exam, and the first thing you run into is usually the head - which she said she ran into quicker than she thought she would. So, nice and low. Woohoo!
