Unfortunately, this race fell on the same weekend as the huge swells that hit Orange County beaches. On race morning we found out that our race was now a duathlon. This has happened two times before (different races) and it is a huge disappointment every time, especially since my strength is the swim. The waves weren't even that big! I was excited to use the huge waves to my advantage, as most of the people were from out of town and aren't used to swimming in the ocean or big waves. Oh well.

The bright spot in our day was that our friend Donny can to cheer us on and take pictures. Donny is an amazing triathlete. He completed an Ironman triathlon in June. I can't even fathom how hard that was!

So instead of a 1/2 mile swim, we were forced to do a 1/3 mile run on the sand. Ugh! I hate running on the sand!

See Brandon zoom by (he's in the red)!

The bike course was a loop on PCH. The weather couldn't have been more perfect for the race.

We did it! We enjoyed free cookies, bagels, yogurt, smoothies, and fruit after. I was bummed about the cancellation of the swim, but I still had fun anyway. We all did great, but Brandon and Skyler did exceptionally well. They both fly on the bike and run.
