My little sister Holly has been telling me she wants to do a race with me for a few months. Finally the perfect 5k came alone and I convinced her to run it with me. My mom and dad had been telling me how Holly was the fastest runner in her PE class at school and could run the mile in less than 7 minutes. I figured she would be able to keep up with me, but thought her endurance would die out after a mile or two since she hadn't run a 5k before. I shouldn't have doubted the ability of a 12-year old speedster.
Holly stayed with me for the first 1/2 mile then took off after I assured her it was ok to leave me. I kept her in my sights the whole time, but she finished 37 seconds faster than me! I was so proud of her!!
Holly finished with an impressive time of 21:58 (7:05 pace), which earned her 1st in her age group (17 girls in her group) and 5th woman overall. WOW! She is officially the fastest Salas.
I didn't do too bad either. I finished in 22:35 (7:17 pace) and got 1st in my age group too (29 women). Skyler got a time of 20:18 (6:33 pace) for 5th in his age group. My dad finished in 29:35 (9:33 pace).
Holly also became an honorary member of Team Sparkle. She wore one of the Traveling Sparkle Skirts (her story will be up on the Team Sparkle blog soon). So many people commented on our cute skirts. I'm convinced that my skirt has made me a faster runner.
