Who is Desmond?

I just realized today that I haven't been blogging about Desmond, just posting pictures. I don't want to forget everything about him so here's a bunch of moments I want to remember:

Desmond is such a great sleeper. Even from the beginning, he was a sleeping champ. During the first few weeks he would sleep about 4 hours at a time at night. I remember the first time he slept 6 hours in a row, I was a little concerned that I should wake him up to feed (like his pediatrician recommended), but then figured that he would wake up if he was hungry. He continues to sleep so well at night. Right now, on a good night, he falls asleep around 9pm and sleeps until about 4am-5am. He eats, then goes back to sleep for 2-3 hours. Heaven!

We found out that Desmond is extremely active when he rolled over at 9 days! We figured it was a fluke, but he did it several more times over the next few days. I was terrified because I read that once a baby starts rolling over you aren't supposed to swaddle then while sleeping anymore. We had to swaddle Desmond because he moves around too much and wakes himself up. So I didn't know what to do. Eventually I stopped worrying about him rolling over, but then he got strong and could burst his way out of a swaddle. Thankfully, my sister let me borrow some velcro swaddle wraps. Pretty much I put him in a velcro strait jacket every night. It works great!

Desmond is soothed to sleep by moving around. He loves jogging with me and is usually asleep within a minute of when we start. Every once in a while I look at him in the stroller and he is wide awake. He likes seeing new places, I guess. He also falls asleep when we drive in the car.

About two weeks ago Desmond seemed to wake up. He seems more alert and wants to be around me all the time. He's not just content laying on his playmat, he wants to know I'm near. Around the same time, he began smiling. He is so happy in the morning and usually greets me with a big smile. I love morning time with him! Desmond also recently discovered his tongue. We loved sticking out our tongues at each other.

I'm really starting to love this guy. I have to admit, I just didn't feel an instant love for him when he was first born. Everything seemed like work and he didn't seem like much of a person. Over the past few weeks, he has become playful and developed a personality. I actually love him. And I really do feel more love for him every day. He's my boy.

What brings me the most happiness is watching Skyler and Desmond together. Skyler is the best dad! I feel so blessed to have this wonderful family.
