5ks are hard. I actually don't like them at all. I'd rather run an half-marathon than a 5k. I'm just not a sprinter. I like to run somewhat slow for a long time. I'm not even warmed-up by the time I'm done running a 5k.
So when my friends signed up for the Tustin Leprechaun Leap, I gave into peer pressure to race. Plus, I admit it, I'm addicted to racing. And this gave me the chance to wear a different color Team Sparkle skirt.
The morning of the race was cold and rainy. Just the kind of race conditions I enjoy. Nonetheless, I was excited to race, as this was my first 5k in 1-1/2 years.
Kelly, Carrie, and I started the race together. It had been awhile since the three of us had ran a race together, so it was a lot of fun to be running again. The ground was wet, but that didn't stop us from running fast.
I finished in 21:58, my 2nd fastest 5k of all time! I was so proud of myself, as this was just 3-1/2 months after I had Desmond. Maybe it is true that mothers run faster post-baby. I've still got plenty of time to test that theory.
