This 9 Months is Way Better

Desmond is quickly approaching one year. I can't believe it! Two weeks ago he turned 9 months. Desmond has changed so much in just the past month. It's been one of the tougher months, but it's had lots of fun moments too.

Ever since we got back from Hawaii, Desmond hasn't been the same sweet boy I used to know. I got sick the day after we got back. Nothing serious, just a congestion cold. And let me tell you that being sick while taking care of a baby is not fun at all. Then Desmond started teething again. His pediatrician said he's got 4 teeth coming in right now. Poor guy. And to top that off, Desmond and I both got sick for over a week, the week that Skyler was in Germany. That was tough. I was trying to not be sick so I could work my Team Sparkle booth at the Disneyland race expo, while taking care of a sick baby, and getting ready to run a 1/2 marathon. Phew. Glad it's over.

Here are the 9 month stats:
Weight 19 lbs (22%)
Height 28-1/2" (54%)
Head size (80%)

  • Desmond has a bit of separation anxiety. I just read that it's a sign of maturing. He's definitely becoming more independent and wants to do what he wants to do, which most of the time is me holding him.
  • His favorite foods are: cottage cheese, wheat bread, sweet potatoes, bananas, peaches, and rice cereal. He's also tried eggs, cheese, blueberry crumble (which he found on the floor), pasta, and otter-pops (when I was desperate to hydrate him)
  • He likes being pushed in the jogging stroller
  • We got a baby gate for the stairs because he can crawl so fast. He loves chasing Pumpkin around the house. She gets irritated because she has to move from place to place to get away from him. She is so patient, letting him poke her eyes and pull her ears.
  • He rarely falls asleep in the car anymore
  • He LOVES to swim. He even tries paddling with his arms.
  • He's getting an attitude and will hit my arm when he's done eating.
  • He is learning to drink from a regular cup.
  • He climbs up on everything, which makes it impossible to move around the house because he is always hanging on my legs.
  • He has started going to Kids Club at the gym twice a week. He cries sometimes when I go but the babysitters are awesome and let me do my full workout.
  • He had his first overnight stay at Grandma and Grandpa Salas' house. He was sick at the time so he stayed up too late, but overall I think he had a great time.
  • His sleeping schedule has been a little off because of being sick and teething. Some nights he'll sleep 9-10 hours. Other nights, like the past few nights, he's up 5 times crying (in pain I think).
  • He knows his name. When he's about to get into something he's not supposed to, I will say his name and he will quickly turn around and give me this silly grin.
  • He loves sucking on our iphones and the remote control. I tried giving him a remote control from an old tv of ours, but he was not interested. He knows the difference.
  • He is already starting to learn French and Spanish. Just kidding! He doesn't say much, but he loves making different sounds, just like a little boy should. My favorite is one where he sounds like a cat purring. He doesn't need to tell me he wants more food, he just sits there with his mouth open. It's cute!
  • He has 2 bottom teeth and 4 on the way.
  • He had his third haircut last month.
  • He's growing up too fast. I love him!
