When the President announced the closure of the NASA program, my first thought was that Tristan can't be the first man on Mars now (Tristan was a good friend growing up & that was his high school dream).
I'm also sad because Desmond will grow up and never get to watch a shuttle launch (unless NASA is reinstated). So when I heard the shuttle was going to be flying by our house, I jumped at the chance to go watch it.
Carrie picked us up and we drove near Disneyland. Every building we drove past had people on the roofs waiting for the shuttle to come by. This was a big event and I was glad we got to be part of it.
We parked in an empty lot with 100 other cars. We sat on the roof of Carrie's van, waiting for the shuttle. It had to have been 100 degrees outside. We were frying, but didn't care.
It finally came and it was an awesome moment. Desmond obviously didn't understand, but it made me tear up a bit. Skyler was in Vegas at the time, so he totally missed it. I hope one day our country will send men into space again (and not just to parachute).

Sounds like my husband.
That is awesome that you guys did that! Very cool pictures. And, can I just say, that I think you guys seriously have THE cutest baby I have ever seen. Don't tell my kids I said that! ;) Seriously, though, he is adorable!
