Fun at the OC Fair

I pretty much had to drag Skyler to the OC Fair this year (not sure why he was putting up a fight). I had been trying to get him to go since it opened. With a pending triathlon, our fair trip had been put on hold until Saturday night. And it was everything I hoped for and more!

Within two minutes of stepping inside the fair gates, Skyler gathered the five of us around (Kenny, Jill, and Jill's brother Ryan) to set-up our game plan. We had a lot of fried food to eat. Skyler wanted to make sure we planned correctly so we could eat it all. Our main strategy was to share.
We made it about 100 feet before we stopped to eat. The most expensive food is probably placed purposely near the front gates so suckers like us stop and eat right away. Phase 1: Fried Avocados, Fried Artichoke Hearts, Apple Fries, and a Mexican Funnel Cake. We knew we should mix the sweets in with our other fried foods because the last thing we wanted was to be too full by the time we got around to desserts. The Apple Fries and Mexican Funnel Cake were new to all of us, and so delicious!
Not sure how this is a good idea! Ryan, Jill, and Skyler decided they wanted to ride this spinning, twisty ride just a few minutes after Phase 1. No thanks! I am too old to make that transition so quickly!

We paid $1 to see a giant steer. After seeing the steer I was more sad than anything. That poor steer sits in a small room all day while people just stare at him. He barely had enough room to stand up. I passed on paying another $1 to see Hercules, the giant horse.
Phase 2: BBQ Corn. I want to say this is the healthiest thing we ate, but there was so much butter slabbed on the corn, that I can't be sure this is the "healthy" winner. I had a hard time paying $3.75 for a cob of corn when you can usually buy it for 25 cents, but Skyler said it was the magic of the fair that we were paying for.

Phase 3: Fried Cheese Curds, Giant Western Hot Dog, and Dippin' Dots. Again, everything was so good. We are still on a roll. We don't see Cheese Curds much (we have only found them at A&W), so we had to get them. Two kinds of cheese and it was fried. Have I mentioned how much Skyler and I love cheese?Phase 4: Oreo Caramel Apple and Deep-Fried Cupcake. Earlier in the night I had seen a cupcake stand selling your average run-of-the-mill cupcakes. My plan was to get one, but when I saw the signs for Fried Cupcakes, I knew what I would be eating.I was a little nervous because I didn't know how good this cupcake would taste. I was mostly eating it for research purposes for my blog. Surprisingly, it was really good. No one else wanted to try it and I ended up eating the whole thing myself. Definitely worth it!
I let myself eat the worst food produced on this earth for one day out of the year. It is worth the wait! Thank you all for the great time!
