Super Frustrated
I love running! I know I am weird, but the feeling of running is so calming to me. I have mentioned many times how horrible it is to not be able to run. I thought I might have shin splints, but after they persisted for six months, I figured I should see a doctor. My doctor ordered me an x-ray. After the x-ray didn't find anything, my doctor ordered a bone scan. I went in for my bone scan on Tuesday. I had no idea what it would entail. Well, they injected my blood with a radioactive tracer. After waiting two hours for the tracer to travel through my bloodstream, I spent another hour on a table while a giant machine scanned my whole body. I was actually excited to be able to figure out what was wrong with my leg so I could move onto repairing it. Well, my doctor called yesterday to tell me that my scan came back negative. Now I am back to square one! I can't run and apparently there is nothing wrong with my leg! Argh!!! My doctor set me up to meet with a sports therapist next week. Hopefully I can get some kind of relief out of that appointment or else I will be so sad forever...

Im so sorry. I have had shin splits before when i played soccer and while i ran track. When i played in college they would tape my arches and it seemed to help a little bit. I just made sure to ice them down a lot. I would use a plastic cup and freeze water in it and then rub that on my shins. I don't know what else to tell you. Good luck!
That sucks! I hope they can help you.
Elise! This is terrible! I really enjoy running too although I haven't done much of it lately... I am sure people have been offering you a number of remedies. Do other high impact sports affect your shins too?
You only have one body. Take care of it. If you hurt, it's sending you a message. I advise to listen.
I go in for knee surgery next month. I didn't listen.
Maybe you're so thin because you like to run so much! I hate running! Good luck with the leg problem!
Thanks for the advice, Stacy. Ashley, my shins really only hurt when I run because swimming and cycling are low impact. I don't do any other high-impact sports. Kristin, I don't want surgery...I will be careful.
