Italy Day 12

Siena! What a beautiful place! We started the day by turning in our bikes at a local bike shop. It was a sad moment signaling that the end of our trip was getting closer.

We couldn't have used our bikes in Siena anyway because it is so hilly. It is a beautiful, small town built on seven hills. We spent half of the day walking around.

First stop, the Duomo.

They were pretty strict about the dress code, as most churches were. It was so hot outside so there was no way I was wearing pants. Luckily, they provided this cute little skirt for me.

This "mural" covered the floors of the Duomo. It is a depiction of when King Herod ordered the killing of all babies.

At first, we thought this wall was a display of items that belonged to people who had died. Upon further inspection, we found that they were items from people who had lived through a situation that they should not have. For example, the bike helmets were from bike accidents. There were also a lot of war medals.

This is Il Campo, the other main sight to see in Siena. It is a huge piazza where people picnic and hang out.

We ate lunch at Il Campo. We knew it would be expensive, but the view was worth it. We ate our favorite meal...pizza!

The streets of Siena are very narrow. Great for pictures.

We came back from a long day of walking up and down hills and jumped into the refreshing pool at our campground. It was wonderful! I actually got a swim workout done on our trip. It was nice to give my arms a little bit of a workout since, up until now, my legs had been doing all of the work.

Skyler made us spaghetti for dinner. When he drained the spaghetti the lid fell off and all of the pasta spilled on the grass. Luckily, we still had half a box left of spaghetti. The funny part was watching the birds grab pieces of the spaghetti and fly away with it. It looked like worms.

I miss eating simple dinners like this.

Elise, I love your recap of your trip. I need to go back and read through everything. It looks like it was AMAZING! Anyways, we are in YL with my parents for a few months while JD trains for his new job. We'd love to play softball, although I'm not sure if you really want me on the team...I'm not super coordinated with my arms (that's why I stuck to soccer). Let me know the details.
