OC Mud Run

Last week was the OC Mud Run. Since it was the inaugural race, it was a disaster (which was expected). The first race (5k) ran way longer than planned because all of the racers had to wait to do each obstacle. So Carrie, Skyler, and I decided that we needed to sprint at the beginning of the race to get ahead of the crowd so we wouldn't have to wait at the obstacles (we ran the 10k race). Our plan worked! There were lots of walls to jump/climb over, mud pits to slide in, and gross, stagnant water to swim in. I had a great time despite the many overall problems of the race.

Before the race:
(we put duct tape on our knees to protect us while crawling through the mud)

On the second loop, I finally decided it was time to get muddy. I slid into the mud pit and turned a few circles. It felt great!

Skyler had the great idea of wearing clear-lens glasses to protect his eyes from the mud!

The bacteria-filled water was after the mud pits so most of the mud washed off before the end of the race.

I hope the race returns next year with all of the kinks worked out. Skyler, on the other hand, may have second thoughts due to the fact that he got sick from the gross water (as did many other people).
