In the morning Skyler, Eric, Cameron, Holly, and I headed back to Kipu Falls for more waterfall jumping and rope swinging. We had the place to ourselves again.
Skyler got this awesome shot of me jumping off the waterfall. At least you can tell I was having fun. Oh, in case you were wondering how we got back to the top...there is a metal ladder screwed into the rocks. I hear the locals just climb up the tree. This was only our second visit.
This shot was taken from the rope swing tree. If you look closely, you can see Cameron perched on a branch. He kept saying he wanted to climb a tree, I didn't realize he wanted to jump out of it too.
As we got more familiar with the rope swing, we kept going higher and higher to jump.
Holly was no scaredy cat. Actually we had to keep reminding her to let go of the rope before it started swinging back. I was really impressed with her ability to hang with the big kids.
Of course Skyler has to show off.
I had so much fun at Kipu Falls. I wish we could have visited at least one more time.
Next on the agenda: kayaking. We drove to Kapa'a to meet up with our tour guide. After a quick lesson, we launched our kayaks and were on our way. It wasn't long (about 2 minutes) before Diego decided we was done and sadly Robin, Daniel, Diego, and Rose turned around. We were gone for about 5 hours so it was probably better that they didn't come with us anyway.
We kayaked about 2-1/2 miles up the Wailua River to a trailhead. Along the way, we witnessed Holly and my parents tip over someone else's kayak. It was quite hilarious! I could see it before it happened. I only regret not grabbing the camera fast enough.
Next was a 1.5 mile hike to a waterfall. The hike wouldn't have been too bad except that our tour guide was a talker. He talked about everything: the bugs, the dirt, the trees, the history of Kauai. He just wouldn't stop talking and because of it, he walked really slow.
But we eventually made it to the waterfall. I can't remember the name, but it was pretty nonetheless. I'm not sure where the water came from, but it was ice cold. I wasn't going to get in, but I figured, how often do I get to swim under a waterfall?
We ate lunch at the waterfall and then hiked back to the kayaks. Again, our tour guide blabbed about everything. It was funny to see people walking to and then from the waterfall way faster than us.
On the kayak trip back, a French couple passed Skyler and me at the beginning. They were paddling at a pretty quick pace. We looked at each other and knew that this was a race. We stayed pretty even with them until the last 1/2 mile when they tired out. That's the advantage of being endurance athletes!
And lucky me, I finally found a cupcake on the island of Kauai. I didn't think any existed. You can read my review here.

The waterfall was called "Secret Falls" but it's a secret! :)
So sad we couldnt make it, but ya know...
Yes, the guide was a real talker. I got stuck with him once by myself. I finally lost him when someone else distracted him.
What a glorious day that was
