Kauai - Day 5

We had been in Kauai for a few days now and decided we needed some alone time. Our idea of alone time is mountain biking by ourselves. We rented a few bikes from a local shop and drove to the east side of the island, very close to where we kayaked the previous day.

The Kuilau-Moalepe trail consisted of this red clay, which was super slippery since it rains almost every day there. Even on some of the easiest little uphills my back tire was spinning. Although, this made for some interesting downhills, as we couldn't use our brakes (because the trail was so slippery, we would have gone out of control).

The views were breathtaking! Nothing in Orange County could compare.

I also learned how much I depend on my clipless pedals and mountain bike shoes. I didn't realize how much they help me balance.

Along the way, saw a sign that said this...
LOST: Gray Tiger $300 Reward. What?!

Most of the time you can tell how much fun your ride was by how dirty you are. I wish we had taken a picture of us at the end of our ride. We were covered in mud from head to toe. This was definitely on my top 3 list for Kauai.

Wow, I want to try that next time. Except for the lost tiger part.
