Saturday was the big day for us! We raced in our first Olympic-distance triathlon. This is our third season of racing in triathlons, but they have all been sprint-distance ones. An Olympic-distance triathlon is twice the distance of a sprint-distance one.
Our triathlon took place at Camp Pendleton in Oceanside. Get ready to view the progression of our race! Skyler and I started 30 minutes apart, but some of the pictures are side-by-side (so don't be confused). We only saw each other once during the race. He was near the end of his bike and I was near the beginning.
We rarely get any pictures of us before the race because we are so busy getting our stuff set-up and stretching. Skyler's mom drove with us down to the race so she was able to get some shots of us.

Skyler was in first wave, which started at 8:05am. His group had the fastest competitors in it. The swim was a one-mile swim.

This is Skyler as he exited the water. He had a fast swim time. He came out of the water just a few seconds after I started.

This is me coming out of the water. It is not a very flattering shot, but you can see the excitement in my face as I see my entire family for the first time that day. They were all standing at the water's edge waiting for me to come out. It was the most emotional part of the day for me. I started to cry, but immediately stopped because I didn't want to waste any energy crying.

After the swim, we had to run about 1/4 mile up to the transition area to get on our bikes. Here is Skyler getting ready to speed away on his bike. He had a very fast bike ride!

After the 26-mile bike, we headed back to the transition area. Our families were there to cheer us on. This is me at the end of my bike ride. I was stoked to see my nieces, Alex and Niki, cheering for me on the sidelines.

I ditched the bike, changed my shoes, and headed off on the run.

Here is Skyler as he left for his run. It was a six-mile run.

Skyler effortlessly runs into the finish chute. I say effortlessly because he looks like he is running with ease, but really he is sprinting towards the finish line.

Here I am near the end of my run. My left knee had been bugging me the last two miles, but I didn't care. I am near the end!

The balloons are blocking his head, but Skyler finished! You can see the time clock showing his time of 2 hours, 43 minutes, 7 seconds.

Skyler barely looks winded after he finished. He is an amazing athlete!

As I had about 50 feet to go, I looked to my left and saw my family standing on the side. I was so happy to see them! They gave me that extra push at the end! I finished with a time of 2 hours, 48 minutes, and 50 seconds.

Of course we were so excited that we finished our first Olympic-distance triathlon and we had great times to show for it, but the best part of the day was having our family and friends there to support us. For the first time ever, my entire family was there to cheer me on. My brother, Eric just recently
returned from his mission, so he has been gone the past two years. My sister, Robin wasn't able to come last year because she was sick from being pregnant with my favorite nephew
Diego. I couldn't have asked for a better day than to have my whole family to support me on this exciting and important day!

As I mentioned before, Skyler's mom came to watch us race also. She came out last year to watch us race, but it was great to have her here again!

Skyler's brother, Dave and his family also came to support us. They hadn't seen us race before. It made us both so happy to have them there. They did a great job at cheering!

We knew a couple of other people who raced with us. This was Johnny Dalton's first olympic-distance triathlon also. He was friends with Skyler's brothers growing up. His family was there to support him and us.

Skyler and I both surpassed our goals and were ecstatic with our results! I am so thankful to have a husband who pushes me to do my best! Of course, we
celebrated by going to our favorite cupcake store in Encinitas, Elizabeth Desserts. We can't wait to sign up for our next race!

I love that somehow I feel I've earned bragging rights about your accomplishment. And brag I do...to anyone and everyone remotely interested.
I also love that I've bragged enough about you two that a guy in my office (who also does triathlons..sp?) now follows your times and came in my office this morning to praise your performances before I had even read this post.
Fantastic Job!
