We left early Saturday morning so we could arrive when the mountain opened. But on the way up, we had to backtrack about 100 miles due to freeway closures from fires. We made it and had a great day on the mountain. I venture to say it was my best day ever!
Wherever we are, fun follows. We did some Christmas list gathering at the local snowboard shop. Kenny demonstrated how high you can kick in these boots.
But the weekend wasn't all fun and games. Saturday afternoon we started getting a ton of text messages and voicemails about the Yorba Linda Fire. When we got back to our hotel room we were able to turn on the news and see our hometown burning. It was surreal. Then, we got word that my parents house and Skyler's dad's house were in danger. They live one street away from each other, with a golf course hole separating them. The fire started to come down the gulley onto the gold green. We spent the night thinking that our parents houses were burning down. Luckily, both houses were saved. Unfortunately, not everyone was as lucky as our parents. Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone who has lost their home.
