Over the Hump #2

We are kinda boring because we do the same things over and over again. Mammoth, triathlons, Lake Mead, Disneyland, running races. We need some more variety in our lives so that our blog will be more exciting. Sorry to bore you.

Tuesday we raced in the second Over the Hump race (I did the first one a month ago). It was so exciting to have my mom, my sister, and my nephew come to support us.

This was Skyler's first race and he did awesome. He finished the three-loop course in less time than it took me to finish my two loops last month. I hope our kids inherit his athletic abilities.

This was my second time doing this race. I knew the course and was excited to show my family something I could do well. When I saw them cheering me on, I pushed even harder and went faster. Well, I must have pushed too hard because I had a few problems. First, I fell. No big deal. 30 seconds later my chain fell off. No big deal, I stopped and put it on quickly. Then I fell going downhill. It hurt, but I was so full of adrenaline that I didn't care. I hopped back on my bike and noticed that something was wrong. Got off and found that my back wheel had come completely off. That's weird. I put it back on and started to ride. My bike started making funny sounds. Uh-oh. I decided that it would be best to just stop my race. I was close to the finish (it was a loop course and I had just finished my first of two loops), so I rode my bike back slowly. My first DNF. I felt like a failure, especially since I had an audience who had come to watch me. I held my head in shame as I found my mom and sister and related what happened. At least I had Diego to cheer me up.

This was the last of these races for the summer. Next summer they will make it a 10-race series. I can improve my riding a lot by then.

Diego looks like he doesn't want that kiss.

Diego was being slightly annoying and very hilarious that night (am I allowed to say that?) Don't feel about the kiss ELise. He does that to me often too! And we had fun seeing you guys!

Skyler is just jealous that I got to hold Diego while Skyler was still racing. More Diego time for me.

I'm so hormonal I almost CRIED for you not being able to finish your race. How silly is that? At least you got in some auntie time!
