Christmas 2009

Both of our families live nearby. So when the holidays come around, you might think that we have a problem with our families wanting us in two different places at once. Fortunately, our families celebrate Christmas on two different days so we are able to appease everyone.

Christmas Eve is with the Salas family. Continuing with the tradition of having an un-traditional Christmas Eve dinner (see 2008 and 2007), Skyler came up with the idea of having a Jewish fare. I think we were all a little hesitant with this one, but once again Skyler pulls through.

Everyone in the family helped prepare the food. Holly made the latkas (potato pancakes).

Eric and I made the Israeli salad.

Dinner was scrumptous and surprisingly everyone loved it! Our menu included beef brisket, noodle kugel, Israeli salad, Challah bread, latkas, and pickles (they were kosher).

But before dinner could start, the men had to take care of a plumbing problem: the kitchen sink was clogged. After an hour of pushing and pulling a snake through the plumbing with my dad, Skyler was covered in gross water and vegetable peelings. At least they fixed it.

Per Skyler's request: BEFORE

AFTER (That's some strong Martinelli's!)

Aren't the Salas ladies lovely? I can't believe how beautiful my little sister Holly has gotten in the past year. She recently turned 12 and has transitioned from a little girl to a young woman (sorry to embarrass you Holly!).

Last, but not least, here is our beautiful Christmas tree! Well, it was beautiful. I guess that's what happens when we purchase our tree three weeks before Christmas. I became very worried that it was a fire hazard. We hope everyone had a great Christmas. We are very fortunate to have so many friends and family to share the holidays with.

Lovely post. I love all the unique things your family does. I want to be like that.

We loved seeing you here. I hope I didn't bore you making you watch the travel show and review my wetsuit and bikes.

Thanks again for the scrumptious cupcakes. If you ever need a Utah correspondant....I am here for you. I could be talked into sampling cupcakes pretty easily.

When I saw that first picture of Holly, I thought "she looks so much like Robin"- she definitely looks grown-up now! Your salad looks yummy! What a fun tradition to mix things up every year. Glad you had a good Christmas :)
