Second question: why do car rental places take so long? We rented two cars for the 11 of us (so glad we didn't end up going with the original plan of one giant 12-seater van) and headed over to Costco to do some grocery shopping. Our first meal on Kauai was at the local Costco...just as good as home.
Since we gained three hours from the time zone change, there was plenty of time to hang out on the beach. We snorkeled and swam in the beautiful beach near our condo (Poipu Beach). Speaking of which, our condo was amazing! I didn't expect anything nearly as nice. Four bedroom, four bathroom luxury condo with a really nice pool outside.
My mom and dad had been raving about a place called Puka Dog since their last visit to Kauai, so it was where we ate our first dinner in Kauai. Everyone loved it except for me. It could be because my order got mixed up or maybe it was because I expected more, but I was unimpressed. Plus, $6.25 for a hot dog?...that's too much, even for Hawaii. (You want a great hot dog? Go to Portillo's in Buena Park. Their Chicago dogs are soooooo good!)
Skyler was in charge of dessert that night. He made acai bowls, something we picked up from visiting his brother in Boise last month. Basically there's a scoop of acai smoothie or some kind of sherbet/sorbet on the bottom. Add any combination of cut-up fruit. Top with granola and honey. We must have made this dessert 3 or 4 times while in Kauai. This is my dad's kind of dessert.
Still lots of thrilling photos to come.

Those desserts were the best!
How funny the bottle of Excedrin is in the dessert picture!
