Skyler rented a board and surfed at Poipu Beach, a little west of where the family beach is. He wanted to bring his own board, but United Airlines likes to rip surfers off. They charge $175 each way to bring a surfboard. And since I'm on the subject, I have to mention that United didn't provide one ounce of food during the entire 6 hour flight. Not even a bag of peanuts! Thank goodness we were prepared with lots of snacks in our bags.
What did I do? The activity I miss most with my busy schedule: read. I watched Skyler out of the corner of my eye, but spent time reading and laying in the sun. Oh how I've missed that! (BTW, that's not me in the picture. I'm taking a picture of Skyler surfing.)
That afternoon we decided to check out a place that a few friends had recommended. Kipu Falls is located about 15 minutes from Poipu Beach. We parked our cars and began the hike to Kipu Falls. It was just starting to rain and the ground was pretty slippery. I would recommend not wearing shoes, as opposed to wearing sandals, because that wet red clay was super slippery.
But all of us made it to Kipu Falls, including Rose who was safely tucked in a pouch.
I have to say that Kipu Falls was in my top 3 activities for Kauai. The hike brings you to the top of a 20-foot waterfall with a deep, crystal clear pool at the bottom. The only way down is by jumping.
Skyler, Eric, Cameron, Holly, and I jumped with little hesitation. Daniel took a little coaxing.
On the other side of the "pool" was a giant tree with a rope swinging hanging from it. We had a lot of fun with the rope swing. Enjoy the videos below. Oh, and by this time, it is pouring rain. We are the only ones at Kipu Falls and are having a blast. We hated to have to leave, but with only two cars and a large group of people, you have to be flexible.
