I Can Cook

In January I attended a blogger event hosted by Fresh & Easy. The main point of the event was to introduce people to foods sold at Fresh & Easy. I didn't need to be introduced because I am a devoted Fresh & Easy customer. When I only need to buy food for two people, there's no reason for me to waste time walking around a giant grocery store. I can get in and out of Fresh & Easy in 15 minutes and have all of my shopping done for the week.

Anyways, back to the event. Fresh & Easy had some guest chefs who helped us cook our food. Now, if you know me, you know that I'm not a good cook. Just ask Skyler (actually he will say I'm a good cook because he's nice like that). So I was excited to learn some new things. When we got to the pizza recipe, I took charge because I make this exact pizza at least once a week. I love Fresh & Easy's pizza dough!

Another recipe we made was shrimp ceviche. I wasn't even sure what that was, so I watched as another member of my group make it. I was a little doubtful of the orange juice involvement, but I trusted that everyone but me knew what they were doing.

We didn't want to wait to taste it. Carrie's a savage like that.

Oh wait...this is how shrimp ceviche should be presented.

Fast forward two months and it's my mom and dad's birthdays. My sister and I always make dinner and dessert for them. My dad requested salmon and my mom requested pasta. I told my sister that Skyler and I would bring the fish. I had totally forgotten that Skyler would be out of town.

Skyler found a recipe for me to use: Grilled Salmon with Lime Butter Sauce. He told me that as long as I followed the recipe exactly, I could do it. I decided to continue with the ocean theme and use my newly-acquired knowledge of shrimp ceviche to add to the menu.

Thanks to the help of my brother Cameron, dinner and dessert turned out fantastic!

And that's that. I can cook. Sometimes.

Happy Birthday Mom and Dad!

Yes, I would love to take a cooking class. I need to learn the basics so I don't have to call my mom to ask how to boil water.
