Wheelies are Easy

Last year, Carrie's husband bought her a mountain bike clinic with a professional mountain biker. Carrie invited her mountain bike buddies to attend with her. But fate did not want us to have this clinic. After postponing several times because of the rain, we had to wait a while longer because Carrie got pregnant. One year later we got to celebrate Carrie's birthday. This is the kind of party I like.

Our instructor, Tanya

Skyler and Pumpkin came along with me to be my personal photographers. Well, not quite. Carrie asked Skyler to come and, being the great guy he is, spent an entire Saturday morning taking photos of a bunch of girls.

Tanya had us practice drills on the grass. Although I've been mountain biking for three years, I've never really learned the basics. This was great for my confidence. For example, I learned how to brake with my front brake and not go over the handlebars.

But most importantly, we learned how to wheelie. For a girl, this is a big deal. Check out the birthday girl!

I was the last one in the group to get it, but I finally did. My first wheelie!

After we covered the basics, we were eager to get on the trails.

Girl mountain bikers are cool. We're tough.

Thank you Carrie, but more importantly, thank you Carrie's husband. Best birthday party ever!

I only have a front break on my fixie. I am still trying to remember how to do wheelies. In high school i use to be able to ride a wheelie for almost a block.
