4th of July 2011

The 4th of July is one of my favorite holidays. I love the heat, watermelon, BBQs, patriotic songs, and swimming. This year I got to enjoy all of those things.

We started off the day with a little 5k run put on by our church. I knew I wouldn't be breaking any records, but I wanted to get out there and run too. We brought Pumpkin and decided that she would run with Skyler if she did her business before the race and with me if she didn't. She did what she was supposed to do and got to run fast with Skyler.

The race started and Skyler and Pumpkin took off. I began running and immediately noticed that my heart rate was too high. Boo. I guess I was just excited. It was sad to watch so many people pass me. Anyways, Skyler and Pumpkin led the race for over half of the time. Then all of a sudden Pumpkin jerked Skyler's arm back and he watched horrified as she stopped to poop again. What luck! Skyler watched four teenage boys sprint ahead of him while Pumpkin took her time. Skyler was going to leave the remains, but realized that the entire group of racers was about to stampede that spot. He scooped up and began running again. He ended up coming in 4th place overall, which is awesome, but I'm sure he could have placed first. How could he be mad at our cute little girl though! I finished with a decent time. It wasn't my worst 5k time, but it certainly wasn't my best either. I pushed a little harder than I should have, but felt great. My doctor said as long as I can hold a conversation while running, then I am fine. So you probably would have seen me talking to myself.

After a pancake breakfast at the park, we headed over to my parent's house to take advantage of a cool pool on a hot day. Pumpkin joined us and she had fun swimming with us. She's not used to swimming in deep water and was a deadly paddle wheel of claws. I stayed far away from her. Skyler, on the other hand, likes to hold his baby.

Even though I hadn't showered and I was still a sweaty mess from running that morning, I had to put up this photo of us. My belly is big and Skyler loves it. Over the next day I proceeded to eat an entire watermelon. Maybe that's why I'm getting so huge.
