Although I know life will change for the better, I can't help to think the easy-going lifestyle that we have will no longer exist. So I've been trying to fit in some extra fun adventures before baby boy comes.
I've always wanted to go beach camping and when I this mentioned to Carrie she said she was in, even though we had slim pickings for campsites. I knew camping with Carrie and her family would be perfect because they are camping experts. Kelly and her family were necessary for this trip too, as they bring the fun and the best food.
Skyler and I arrived late Friday night, as we went to a work party for Skyler beforehand. Our campsite was near the 5 freeway, the railroad tracks, and the bluffs that overlook the ocean. Although not the most ideal campsite, it was perfect for us. We set up camp, drank hot chocolate, and crashed hard.
The next morning Skyler and the boys were off on a mountain bike ride. Skyler was still preparing for Leadville and couldn't waste a weekend of training.
One of the main reasons I chose this campsite is because it allowed dogs. I wanted Pumpkin to experience camping with us. Plus, she's about 3-1/2 months away from moving down a notch on our priority list. I've been trying to make her feel extra special.
Pumpkin wasn't the only dog though. Gigi joined our party too, but she was way calmer than Pumpkin. That's wasn't a surprise.
While the boys went biking, the girls packed up the gear, kids, and dogs, and headed down to the beach. Although summer is nearly over, this was my first trip to the beach this year. It's not often that Skyler and I go to the beach to lounge. I wish it happened more often though.
Pumpkin did a pretty good job of staying near me. And I did a pretty good job of not moving for 6 hours, hence the swollen feet. When Skyler got back, he played with Pumpkin in the sand. She loves to dig in sand. And she gets crazy when she does it, like she smells something irresistible under the sand.
Here's our family, all 4 of us. This is the only picture of me from the weekend mainly because I feel fat. I didn't fit into any of my swimsuits or shorts. Didn't matter though because I was having a great time.
That night we had the best dinner: bacon wrapped Hebrew National hot dogs with chili and nachos. I love camp food. Night ended with some s'mores and hot chocolate (my fav!).
Pumpkin was exhausted by the end of the day. She's used to sleeping all day, so a day of playing in the sun with dad and the kids was tiring.
That night it rained. All I could think was that I was so thankful Skyler had put the rain tarp on. Not one bit of rain in the tent. Carrie and I had planned on running in the morning, but I assumed the rain had canceled those plans. But at 6:30 sharp she was at my tent asking if I was ready. I thought she was kidding. She wasn't. We ended up doing a nice 5 mile run. The weather couldn't have been more perfect. We actually ran on the bike course of my favorite triathlon, Ironman California. It was a reminder that I have to skip that race next year. I think the baby will be worth it though.
After Skyler's surf session, we packed up our stuff and headed home. I love this picture because it reminds me of Italy with Skyler. Almost every day we had to pack and unpack our tent. I loved that trip.
Of course we couldn't leave the San Clemente area without stopping by Pedro's Tacos. Yum!

I wish I looked as "fat" as you. No one feels bad for you on this one.
Glad you had a great camp out.
