Prep Work

Only 57 days until Skyler and I race in the Ford Ironman 70.3 (aka Half Ironman). This will be our longest race yet. Here's the rundown: 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike, 13.1 mile run. I used to think that I could never do this race, but it is becoming more of a reality. I am ready! Well, maybe I am not as ready as I want to be, but I will be ready.

To prepare us for the race, we signed up to do a running race. The original plan was to run a half marathon to see how well we do running that distance (since neither of us had ran that distance in a race before). Well, then I had my lame leg problem. Even though I started running again for real in December, I have had to limit the number of miles I can run, as well as my speed. This would not allow me to run in the half marathon like planned. Oh well, I got to watch Skyler speed through a half marathon. I had no doubt that he could do it.

Not to be outdone, I ran in the 5k race the same day. Although I felt almost silly running that short of a distance (compared to Skyler), I did fairly well. I placed 7th out of 274 in my age group. And my average pace was way faster than my normal workouts.

So back to the Half Ironman. We are hoping to get a large group of family and friends to cheer us on during our race. Here's the info: April 4, 2009 at the Oceanside Harbor. First wave starts at 6:30. The spectator zone is in a great spot. You get to watch the entire swim, the bike start and finish, and the run start and finish. You are right on the beach so you can lounge on the sand or walk to the nearby restaurants. We hope to see you there!

I wish I could be there. I wish I was you. Congrats on 7th place out of 274 injured. You're pretty talented at this. And you're pretty.
